Abstract :

Drinfeld modules and Drinfeld modular varieties are function field analog of elliptic curves and elliptic modular curves, which also play an important role in arithmetic geometry. The purpose of this short course is to introduce them and discuss the parallel theory for graduate students who plan to study further topics. Our plan is to cover the construction of Drinfeld modular varieties and the description of the rationl points over finite fields, which are about the contents of Laumon’s book [1] Chapters I and II. Topics include: Line bundles Drinfeld modules, torsion subgroups, level N structure, Drinfeld moduli spaces, Tate modules, Dieudonne modules, endomorphism algebras, central simple algebras, Honda-Tate theorem.

Prerequisites :

Notions of schemes and group schemes. Basics on moduli spaces would be helpful (See for example Lectures 1-4 of Introduction to abelian varieties: analytic theory:
