报告摘要：In this talk I will discuss the asymptotic connections between the Landau-de-Gennes theory and the Ericksen-Leslie theory for nematic liquid crystals. I will present the main results that  the weak solutions to the Beris-Edwards equations converge to the ones to the Ericksen-Leslie equations in 2-dimension as the elastic coefficient tends to zero. The key point is that the limiting weak solutions to the Ericksen-Leslie system may have singularities. The main difficulties and ideas of analysis will be discussed. This is based on  joint works with Dr. Xiaotao Zhang.

专家简介：辛周平教授，1988年在美国密歇根大学获数学博士学位，后加入美国纽约大学柯朗数学研究所并于1996成为终身教授。现任香港中文大学数学科学研究所执行所长、蒙民伟数学讲座教授。辛周平教授长期从事流体力学偏微分方程理论研究，在双曲守恒律、高维激波、边界层理论、混合型方程，可压流体与不可压流体方程和松弛格式等领域做出了重要的研究成果，至今发表研究文章近190余篇，谷歌（google）引用超1万2千余次，单篇文章引用近千次。近5年 谷歌引用超4千次。曾获美国斯隆（ Sloan）研究奖。曾在2002年国际数学家大会上做45分钟报告，在2004年的“国际华人数学家大会”上获“晨兴数学奖金奖”。是教育部长江学者。辛周平教授是《分析的方法和应用》（MAA）主编，《数学物理杂志》（JMP）和 《应用科学中的数学方法》（M2AS）付主编，《应用科学中的数学模型和方法》（M3AS）, 《中国科学•数学》（SCM），《京都大学数学杂志》 等十几种国内外研究期刊的编委或主编。曾任香港数学会会长。
